Today, NUITEQ celebrates 13 years. To say we have learned a lot over the years would be an understatement. We’ve decided to share with you 13 things we’ve learned in 13 years:
1. Find comfort within discomfort
With employees working in seven different countries and 19 languages between us, NUITEQ conducts most of its meetings and company communication in English, sometimes in Swedish and every now and again in Swenglish. It is a more inclusive approach and this way, no one gets left behind. For our Senior Designer Mathias Berg, this is something he is especially grateful for. “Over the years, I got better at collaboration, communication and learned a lot of new tools and practices. But what I feel most thankful for is that working in a multinational company has made me way more comfortable speaking English.”
2. Embrace the challengeWhether big or small, our team sees challenges as a chance to learn and grow. Many echoed this sentiment and agreed that challenging yourself is key in reaching your full potential. Dennis Mohi, our Sales Director explained that his clients have taught him that the obstacle is the way. “What stands in the way is the way,” says Dennis. NUITEQ believes overcoming challenges is what defines us and certainly something to embrace.
3. Believe in yourselfNUITEQ’s Educational Technology Coach Danielle Maclin has traveled across Europe and the U.S. to show users how to use NUITEQ Snowflake, our educational technology software platform that facilitates remote learning and boosts student engagement to its full potential. She also hosts our weekly webinars, introducing new features and connecting with educators from all over the world. She says that she’s learned to share her voice during the opportunities she’s had to present in front of a crowd: “I am generally not a fan of public speaking, but I feel confident and empowered during those opportunities,” says Danielle.
4. A diverse team is a dream team
“Working closely with a team from all over the world has taught me the power of diversity,” says Brian Collins, another one of our Sales Directors. “As a diverse team, we approach challenges with different solutions and mindsets which allows us to leverage a team with immense knowledge and experience.” Diversity and inclusion are values NUITEQ takes pride in.

5. Work-life balance is key
We believe having a work-life balance is crucial and makes for a healthier work environment with happier employees and an increase in productivity. NUITEQ’s Marketing Officer Alina Chioran likes that NUITEQ believes in this motto as well: “We spend 1/3 of our lives at work. To have an environment where you can do your work, collaborate, learn from each other, and at the same time have fun doing it plays a major role in our team's well-being,” says Alina. “I have worked in other European countries where the concept of work-life balance seems non-existent and I confidently say how much of a difference it can make.”

6. There’s no such thing as over-communicating
Working with different teams and across multiple time zones can be tricky to navigate which is why communication is key. One of our Education Technology Coaches based in Skellefteå, Sweden stresses the importance of good communication. “You can never be too clear in your communication, especially when it's done in writing and you don't have body language to fall back on,” says Myrto Pitsava.
7. Know the market like the back of your handNUITEQ’s VP of Customer Experience Jack Reed says knowing your product and market is of great importance and something he has made a top priority. “I have learned a lot about the market, reading posts from co-workers. Brian, Dennis, and Atilla are always posting interesting articles about the market and competitors.”
Petter Hedberg, our Regional Sales Manager adds that being part of a growing market is both fun and exciting. "I learned that EdTech is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and if you learn and position yourself well, then it could lead to great opportunities."

8. Remote work is part of our DNA
Johan Schager Låås is the newest member of our team, having joined NUITEQ in February as our Products & Solutions Director. “Coming from Stockholm, I prepared to spend half of my time in Skellefteå and commute back to Stockholm during weekends,” says Johan. “The apartment was set up, my favorite bars were identified and my pantry was loaded with oats and peanut butter. I was looking forward to getting to know a new city!” He has been quarantined in Stockholm for over three months and realizes that since working remotely works really well for NUITEQ, the adjustment has been relatively easy. “It is probably since remote work is part of the culture at NUITEQ.”
9. Go outside
“Learning about friluftsliv and the importance of connecting with the outdoors has been impactful for me especially in this time of working and learning from home,” says NUITEQ’s VP of Customer Engagement Dr. Edward Tse. With our headquarters located in the North of Sweden, where the natural elements play an important role in shaping the office culture, we value being able to step outside and enjoy nature. It’s a great way to recharge, get inspired and get the creative juices flowing!

10. Become a lifelong learner
One of our Senior Software Engineers believes that being able to learn more about a field you’re especially passionate about is not something to be overlooked. “Getting the opportunity to work in web development and at the same time develop my skills in something that I'm interested in is awesome,” says Aron Frostinger. He isn’t the only one who loves learning new things; learning is part of our company’s DNA.

Johan Larsson, our Chief Technology Officer says that he values continuous learning: “I have found that being quick to learn new things is more important than expertise. What I am working on now only bears a very slight resemblance to what I was working on 12 years ago.” Continuously learning - both independently and as a team - is one of NUITEQ’s strengths. “The fact that we all learn from each other, from our partners and from our users every day is what has kept us around and relevant,” says Johan. “It is also what will keep us around for another 13 years.”
11. Don’t be afraid to try new thingsNUITEQ believes in trying out new things and is always open to new ideas and approaches. Our Digital Media Specialist Pontus Sundström says that since joining NUITEQ’s team, he’s learned the importance of challenging himself and trying out new things, adding that embracing the challenge boosts the morale. “Some things succeed, some fail - and that is how it should be. The way to success!”

Felicia Ignberg, our Video Editor agrees: “I would say it's important to challenge yourself even if it is scary sometimes. Maybe you haven't done that type of editing before or used that program before. And it is so important to try new things and step outside of your comfort zone.” She continues: “And even if you fail, you have learned something new.”
12. Ask, ask and ask again!
Tobias Klaus started off as an intern and is now working as one of our Software Engineers. He attributes his growth, in part, to working in a safe and encouraging environment and believes asking questions is essential. “I improved my web development skills by asking a lot of questions to other developers and learning from them.” NUITEQ’s Technical Product Manager Munir Noorani supports this theory saying: “One of my biggest learnings is that you should not hesitate to ask questions. You'll find that everyone is eager to help.”
13. Your partners matterLast and by no means least, NUITEQ’s CEO and co-founder, Harry van der Veen says that he has learned something new every single day in the last 13 years. “One of the most important things that I’ve learned is that partnerships are crucial for the success of the business. We really appreciate our partners and users.”

A final word from our CEO Harry van der Veen
"I'm proud that in the last 13 years we have developed NUITEQ into a company with around 50 people that are passionate, dedicated, driven and eager to learn. I’m looking forward to the next 13 years as we continue to further build NUITEQ and help spread our remote education and remote collaboration solutions around the globe. I want to thank everyone that has made and continues to make this exciting journey possible for NUITEQ, including my family, friends, former teachers, colleagues, former colleagues, customers, partners, fans, investors, business angels, advisors and so many other people that have contributed."
