Today, we’d like to introduce you to another member of the NUITEQ® team, Senior Software Engineer, Johan Österberg.
Q: Hi Johan, please tell us a bit about yourself.
A: Hi, my name is Johan and I work at the NUITEQ office in Skellefteå, Sweden. I’m originally from Östersund, Sweden but moved here to study towards a BSc in Computer Games Development. After my studies, I got the opportunity to join NUITEQ as a Software Engineer. I have now been here for just over five years.
I live just a short bike ride from the office with my fiancee, Anna, and our two-year-old son, Alvin.
Q: After 5 years at NUITEQ, what can you say about your role in the company? What's the best and least favorite part about it?
A: Coding is an ever-evolving thing, so it always makes me stay on my toes and keeps myself updated on the latest news and tech in the world of software development. This, together with the fact that I get a lot of opportunities to visit trade shows and events, to meet and talk to the people that use our software every day, are the best parts of my job.
If I have to select something that is less fun it’s probably debugging hardware related issues, it’s usually a slow process that most often doesn't have any other way of reproducing a bug than to just try a lot of times until it happens.
Q: What motivates you to succeed in your role?
A: Nothing gives me a bigger boost to improve our software and also my own skills than to see and hear from our users, both on how much they love our software and the difference it makes in their respective field.
Q: How about your free time? How do you spend it and what are you passionate about?
A: I spend most of my free time with my family. My son Alvin loves to be outside so we spend a lot of time playing in the nearby playground.
When I’m not spending time with Anna and Alvin I usually play video games or go mountain biking.
I’m also a youth climbing coach two times a week.
